Saturday - Moving Day part 2
The first thing we noticed when we arrived at the new building was the effects of the recent storms. A limb the size of a tree itself had fallen off of the tree out front and took down the phone lines with it. Luckily it missed everything else.
It was a HUGE move and took a lot longer than anyone expected, but we had the best volunteers with lots of smiles and good spirits despite the hard work. We were all on a high being in the new space (and it wasn't just the floor sealant fumes!).
In the middle of it we broke for a pizza lunch and took a much-needed sit-down for a few minutes. Once that was done, there was yet another truck to be unloaded... and another... and another... but it's finally all at the new building.
Now comes the long job of unpacking, organizing, and arranging everything. With the help of our studio assistants, volunteers, and of course outstanding leadership, it will get done on time.
Stay tuned.
Thanks to Max and John for the photos.

Saturday - Moving day part 1
Saturday we moved Clayworks to that new building we've been talking about so much (4506 Monroe Road).
It was a long and arduous move even with three moving vans, a forklift, a crew of movers, and a big group of volunteers. Things cranked up about 8:30 am and continued until 10:00 pm. (Yes, that's right -- 10:00 pm!)

Thursday - Coming together
Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Tuesday - Meanwhile...
While everything is going on at the new building, a lot is happening at our old location.
Folks have been hard at work breaking down, packing, organizing, and staging. It's been hot work, too, due to the current heat wave.
You wouldn't recognize the old building. The classrooms are broken down, the shelves are in piles, and most of it is palletized.
The big move is coming...

Monday - Things are moving fast
Things are shaping up nicely at the new building!
Important parts are being installed as this is being written. Walls are going up and sheetrock is being applied to them, kilns are being moved, and air conditioning ductwork is being carefully put into place. All these things are coming together to the point that you probably wouldn't recognize it as the same building if you toured it before the work started.
Stay tuned! It's only going to get more exciting!
Thanks to Max for the phine photos.
